THE WOOL SALES

TO BE RESUMED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 8. iriview of the export of wool having been to some extent interfered with by the shortage of shipping, a conference, convened by the Now Zealand Wool Brokers’ Association, was to have been held in Christchurch yesterday to consider the position. The Press is informed, however, by Mr M. S. Bourn, president of the Association, that lie has cancelled the meeting, in view of the fact that the outlook has improved, and that there is a fair prospect of the wool getting away with not a great deal of delay. The remainder of the programme of local auction sales in the dominion is therefore being resumed, tile dates fixed for each centre being put back a fortnight from the time originally fixed. The Dunedin sale has been held and the Wellington sale is fixed for the 1 Ith inst. It is imped to arrange for a sale at Napier, and the sale to have been held in Christchurch on Monday will probably be held in a fortnight, that is, on February 22nd. Mr Bourn says that the delay in holding the sales will not affect the growers prejudicially. In fact they will be the gainers, seeing that prices show a hardening instead of a weakening tendency, as the Dunedin sale last week indicated. The increased cost of storage, etc., is a small matter that should not be considered at a time like the present.

It is anticipated that the entries for next wool sale’in Christchurch will be between 7000 and 10,000 bales, but the quantity depends to a large extent upon what private sales are being made.
