MARCONI SYSTEM. NOW P UEI )OM INA NT. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, July 26. Signor Marconi, speaking at a meeting of tlie Marconi Company, stated that owing to the war Hie Postmaster-Ooneral had cancelled the schemes for an Imperial wireless chain. Negotiations had been recommenced with the Government in February to erect certain stations upon conditions differing from those in the original scheme, and these negotiations were proceeding' on a “reasonable eciui valent" basis. Mr Isaacs (manager) stated that owing to the German Government's support of the German scheme the company had appealed to Sir Edward Grey, who thenceforward had supported their negotiations abroad. The Marconi Company were now in a preponderating position through-out the world. WHAT GERMANY SAVED, BY HER S V STEM. LONDON, July 26. Air Isaacs added that although Britain’s ultimatum to Germany did no£ expire till midnight, Germany at 5 p.m. on August, 1914, sent out all over the world a wireless message saying: “War is declared; make for a neutral port as quickly as possible.” Thus Germany saved the great part of her mercantile marine. Germany had spent two millions sterling upon these wireless stations, but recouped it by saving every single one of her largest steamers.
