JEWELLER IN COURT
CASE DISMISSED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June S. In the Police Court to-day Ernest George Nourse, Jeweller, and George Robertson Wright, salesman, were charged that they sold goods bearing a false trade description, and that they applied a false trade description of goods sold by them. Evidence was given that a policeman asked for a Oct gold medal, and was given one which was described as Pet gold, strengthened with solder. Later he purchased another medal, stamped P-carat, for 17s (id. On assay these medals proved to be 1.66carat, consisting of solder, with a very Uiin facing of 9-carat gold. The defence was that the goods were sold to the defendant by a Birmingham firm, and it was not until complaint was made by customers that lie knew he had been victimised. He had since made claim on the manufacturers for compensation. The Magistrate said the P-carat stamp was entirely misleading, hut it was applied by the manufacturers, and not by the defendant Nourse. The charges were consequently dismissed.
