THE LATE MR GALLOWAY
PROPOSED MEMOP.IAI., At a meeting of citizens on Thursday it was decided to Rive the public an opportunity of subscribinp to a memorial that will serve to keep alive the memory of the late Air lan Galloway and of the noble act of self-sacrifice by which lie lost his life. The sad tragedy will not soon be forgotten. Very appropriately it has been decided that the memorial shall take the form of a challenge trophy to be competed for by physical drill squads from year to year. It will not be possible to win the trophy outright, but it will be held by the winners for the year whose names will he enpraved upon it. If funds permit it may possibly be decided to give a cup or medals to the winners each year, hut the winning and holding of the trophy will in itself be a high honour. The movement is one that will command widespread support, and there should be no difficulty in raising a substantial amount. Subscriptions will be acknowledged in this place. The following amounts have come to hand: — £ s. d. Amount previously acknowledged 7 7 0 Phill 0 5 0 Sympathiser 1 1 0 J. T. Carswell 1 1 0
