A narrow escape from a serious train accident occurred on i* riday nigbl near Tliomdon. when the train which arrives in Wellington at 10.1 a p.in.-was partly derailed. The train comprised 27 wagons and lliree passenger car?. When the viaduct over the Hull road was reached serious .tolls and Jars indicated that somethiup was amiss. Ihe brakes were immediately applied, when it was found Unit four la-ton trucks had left the rails and were badly damaged. The accident was due to the doors of one of the trucks beinp wrenched off and eominp into contact witii the train, lifting the trucks bodily off the rails and derailinp the three followinp trucks. The fore part of the train proceeded to the station. A paup of men aider workinp all night had Iho line clear hy the- morning.
