WALLACSTOWN STOCK SALE. The usual fortnightly stock sale was held in the AVallaceaown slock yards yesterday. There was a large attendance of buyers, but a smaller entry than at the previous sale, with the bidding keener. Yesterday's entries compared with those of the two previous bales are as follows: Mar. 10. Feb. 21. Fob. 10. Fat cattle 84 149 427 Store cattle 450 554 365 Fat sheep 1950 1500 1074 Store sheep 900 3200 113T CATTLE. The bulk of the yarding of fat cattle Consisted of cows and heifers, there being a noticeable absence of weighty prime bullocks. Bidding was keen throughout and a rise of from 10s to Jos per head on- fat bullocks and of from 15s to 20s per head on cows was shown on last sale prices. There wore some tirst-ciuss store cattle yarded and these met witli a ready sale. A northern buyer was operating very freely and purchased nearly all tile big-framed cattle in the yards. He also procured a number of lines privately. Prices were in a slight advance of last sale's prices and, the bidding was more spirited, there being no time lost In getting rid of the whole yarding. SHEEP. The yarding of fat sheep was a large one and was for the most part comprised of prime wethers and ewes, which sold up to expectations. Unfinished did not meet with such a ready sale and prices were inclined to b>‘ easier. A feature of this yarding was the large number of fat lambs forward. 3t was easily the largest yarding of these at a AVallacetown sale this season and it would appear as if farmers are beginning to realise that buyers operate as freely for these in the yards as they do privately. Heavy lambs sold tip to 2Us Gd and average weights from J6s 9d to 17s 9,1. There were some good store lambs yarded and these met with ready sale *t prices somewhat in advance of the previous sale. Other classes also sold w-ell and there was no trouble experienced in selling the various lots offered. WRIGHT. STEPHENSON & CO. Fat Sheep.—Account Ronald and Sims, 50 fat wetliers at 20s 6d. CHRISTCHURCH. March 10. The weaker tone of the English market and a private advice of a penny per bushel decline in Australia has caused buyers in the local market to ease off in their purchases of wheat. The demand is therefore not so free as it was last week. Prices have, however, not weakened and there is a fairly latge quantity on offer. Oats arc still slow of sale. Some of the lines offered are off colour, the best of the grain haying apparently gone into the stack. The potato market is still very dull. There is no demand yet from Auckland, the market there at present being well supplied and hearing in mind last year’s experience there is little desire to do forward business at the equivalent of the prices now being asked at this end by groyvers. There is a good demand for cocksfoot and prices for bright, clean seed are very firm. The hulk of the seed offered is. however, medium and inferior anrl there is a considerable range in values.
