AI’CKK AXI >. .March .V The Talune brings a report that the, outlying islands of the Cook Croup were swept, by a hurricane in the second week in January. It is believed that the fruit and other crops nt Kakahanga and .Manibiki suffered considerably. The hurricane swept Shell island and caused the mountainous seas to swamp Kakahanga and Manibiki. The natives were compelled to take to a, boat until the storm subsided. Considerable damage was done to the crops. The islands, Which lie low, were completely submerged. Aitalaki Island wa.s in the track of the storm, but sustained less damage. The storm arose suddenly. After passing over (be Shell group it spent itself on the Cook Islands. An unnamed schooner, known to lie in the vicinity of the hurricane, lias not been reported. .It is feared she went down.
