He was born in Lyttelton ;ti 3 SGI. and was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, and at the King’s College School, London. lie was for fourteen years a member of the Christ's College iilties, and was elected captain of the corps in 3893. In June. 3Sh .. iie was promoted to the Staff, and gazetted a major, and on August 1. 3 901, he was appointed Lieut.-Colonel in succession to the late Lieut.-Colonel Francis.
