OLD MAN FOUND DEAD. An old man, named Thomas Maurice Bedggood, 72 years of age, who lived by himself in. premises situated in Tay street, was found dead in bed yesterday morning. The previous evening, when a friend visited him, deceased made a complaint that he did not feel too well, but did not think that medical assistance was necessary. Deceased was a harnessmaker by trade, and had resided in Lumsden prior to coming to Invercargill. it is understood that at one time he was a prominent business man in a large way in Victoria, where his widow is said to reside. The facts were reported to the Coroner, who had decided that an inquest is unnecessary CAPSIZE OF A GIG. As the result of a gig capsize in Spey street on Wednesday evening Mr .lames Harper, the well-known butcher, met with injuries to his face and body, which will necessitate his lying up for some time. Owing to a shaft of tire gig breaking, the horse took fright and carried tiie gig into contact with a lamp post. There was a second occupant in the gig with Mr Harper, but when they were thrown oui, he escaped injurj. Mr Harper was not so fortunate. He fell under tiie horse’s legs, and the animal in plunging trod on him. The sufferer was immediately conveyed to a house near-by. where medical aid was summoned, and his injuries promptly attendee! to. IDENTIFIED. AUCKLAND, January 22. The body which was found in the harbour yesterday morning has been identified as that of John Irving, a young married man. who was drowned through an accident while fishing in the harbour on Saturday afternoon. An unusual circumstance is that, although the body had only been in the water four days, it was decomposed to such an extont as to ronrtor it unrocoprnisable even by friends of the deceased. An elderly man.-William Glenkworth, a resident of Whenuakura. near Paten, was found dead in the town. Evidently he foil down the embankment on to the liver lied and died as a result ol tiie injuries sustained.
