COAL PORTERS STRIKE. I (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, January 22. Received 23rd, 12.10 a.m. Seven thousand London coal porters, taking advantage of the cold weather, have struck for an increase of a penny ! per ton. If the strike is prolonged there 1 will he much suffering inflicted on the poorer consumers. WANT ANOTHER CONFERENCE. MELBOURNE. January 22. Received January 22. 9.50 p.m. At a Meeting of the Council of the ' Waterside’ Workers’ Federation, it was decided to ask for another conference with the employers. | Mr W. Hughes, replying to a question. ; said that it did not mean that they had abandoned the log previously submitted.
