The International Agriculture Institute reports that the production of winter and spring cereals during 1910, in countries north of the Equator, amounts to the following:—Wheat, 1,035,000,000 cwt; rye, 82t,D00,D00; barley, 586,000,000; oats, 1,187,000,000; maize, 1,862,000,000. The estimates of the cereal crops south of the Equator total 144,000,000 cwts, compared with 133,500,000 cwts in 1909. AUSTRALIAN MEAT TOR SWITZERLAND. LONDON, January 23. Sir G. H. Reid is negotiating with the Swiss Minister regarding the introduction of Australian frozen meat into Switzerland. GORE STOCK SALE. In a small yarding of sneep (only some 400 being entered) at the Gore saleyards yesterday there was an improved demand and prices were better than of late. A line of 100 odd young ewes and lambs made 13s 5d (all counted), 120 old ewes and lambs selling at 10s 2d. Fat ewes numbered about 50 and sold at 12s lid, 14s and Ms 3d. For a pen of store wethers (small) 12s 6d was paid. Cattle were in short numbers and sold as follows:—Fat cows up to £5 10s, milk cows from £G 11s to £7 12s Gd, IS months' old steers and heifers from £3 to £3 Ms, and calves at £1 to £1 10s. FROZEN MEAT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following cablegram from Us London house, under date 24th instant:— Frozen .Meat —Market easier frozen mutton; market has downward tendency; frozen lamb; market firm frozen beef (sides). DUNEDIN PRODUCE REPORTS. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Dunedin, report as follows: —We held our usual weekly auction sale of grain at our stored on Monday, the 23rd instant. There was a fair attendance of buyers but bidding was not animated, and the bulk of the catalogues was passed in. Oats. —The demand still continues quiet. Millers and shippers are not operating unless at reduced juices, and any business passing is in small lots for local consumption. Quotations; —Prime milling, 2s 3d to 2s Sj-d; good to best feed, 2s 2d lo 2s 2',-d; inferior to medium, 2s to 2s Id per bushel (bags extra). ■Wheat. —There is nothing fresh to re* port. Prime velvet and velvet ear is saleable, but Tuscan has no enquiry. Fowl feed is more plentiful, but is being worked about in small quantities. Prime velvet, 3s lOd to 4s; velvet ear and Tuscan, 3s 7d to 3s -Sd; whole fowl feed, 3s 5d to 3s Ud per bushel (bags extra). Potatoes —The market is moderately supplied, and there is a fair sale as under;— Locally grown, 7s to 8s per cwt. Chuff.—During the last week, large consignments have come to hand, and I at to-day's sale we offered over 100 tons. The demand was very slack, and prices dropped considerably. Only the best quality was saleable even at quotations', medium quality being quite out of favour. We would advise clients to ease off consignments until the present heavy stocks in Dunedin are worked down to a smaller compass. We quote:—Prime oaten sheaf, £4 7s Cd (o £4 10s; fair quality. £4 to £4 ss; light medium, £3 to £3 15s per ton (bags extra). Messrs Donald Reid and Co.. Ltd., Dunedin, report; —We held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stort-s on Monday. We submitted a catalogue made up of feed oats, fowl wheat, poiatoes. and a full offering of chaff. Under fair competition we cleared most of our catalogue. A few trucks of chaff, however, received no attention from buyers and had to he passed in. Values Mill'd as under: — Oats. —The market has been extremely quiet so far as any shipping business is concerned, and only small sales for local Lrail'* can he reported. We quote: —Prime milling. 2s 2ad to 2s 3d. good to best feed, 2s Id to 2s 2d; medium, Is lid to 2s p"r bushel: sacks extra.

Wheat. —In view of the quotations from northern stations, millers are not disposed to take linos in store on the basis of lute quotations and sales can only he effected at lower values. Fowl wheat is not over plentiful and commands fair value. Wo quote Prime milling, 3s Sd to 3s 9d; medium milling suul best whole fowl wheat, 3s 5d to 3s 7d; medium fowl wheal, 2s 10d to 3s Id; broken and damaged, 2s ltd to 2s 9d per bushel, sacks extra. Potatoes. —Heavier supplies have come to hand and prices are again caster. I’nripe and stale samples are extremely diilieult lo quit, at quotations. LONDON, January 23. Mr Licht, the expert, estimates that the production of sugar beet so far shows an increase of 715,000 tons, and for the season the increase will be 1,989,000 tons. BRITISH MARKETS. LONDON, January 24. Received January 24, 8.40 p.m. Copper—Spot, £55 7s Cd; three months, £56 os Del; electrolytic, £57 15s. Tin —£190 15s. Lead —£12 18s 9d. Wheat —An Australian cargo sold at about 365. THE NATIONAL MORTGAGE CO. LONDON, January 24. Received January 24, 5.40 p.m. The report of the National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand shows a profit of £47,348. The total dividend amounts to 11‘4D per centum; added to reserve, £15,000; carried forward, £9848. The Australian Mortgage and Agency Company is rexiaying a further twenty per centum of preference stock. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. ’ WELLINGTON, January 23. The High Commissioner cable the following market report on 21st January (tile quotations, unless otherwise specified, are the average market prices on spot):— Mutton. —Market steady; stocks New Zealand small, but high prices are restricting business. Canterbury cannot be quoted. North Island, -Had; Australian, 3‘,sd; River Plate, 3‘sd. Lamb. —Dull sale for all lamb, and the market has declined. Canterbury, 5%<L other than Canterbury, 5%d. Beef. —Market firm, stock on hand small, with good inquiry, especially for fores. New Zealand hinds, 3%d; fores, 3d, Butter.—Market firm, with more inquiry at higher prices about the beginning of this week. The market closed rather quiet. Choicest Now Zealand, 110s (occasionally Ills); Australian, 105s; ■Danish, HGs; Siberian, 103s. The Arawa’s I shipment arrived in good condition. Cheese. —Market firmer. The Arawa’s shipment arrived in good condition/ and 1 met with brisk demand. Coloured, 5Js; white, 57s 6d. The output from Manila for the week was 30,000 bales. Wool. —Market stronger. Cocksfoot Seed.—Market quiet, but firm. New crop, weighing 191b petbushel, was offered at 80s per cwt; no buyers. Kauri Gum. —Market quiet, but holders are firm; small business doing, and prices weak.
