THE CHURCH TO-DAY.

an OUTSPOKEN CLERIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright). SYDNEY, Jan. 23. The Rev. Dr Bevan, in a sermon in the Pitt street Church, said that the Church’s great danger was Its formula, fine buildings, splendid rubrics, and grand organs. It had become dogmatic, Official, and institutional, and had ceased to he the kingdom that Christ declared it to be. Most social conditions to-day were those of force and prosperity. Referring to the continuance of the Jewish people, the Doctor declared: “You won’t go to war till the Jew tells you. You are dominated by a nationless, homeless, despised people, the scattered children of Israel.”
