THE HAWKE CUP FUND

The purport of the Lord Hawke Cup Fund Is to defray the travelling expenses of the Southland representative cricket eleven in its match (at Christchurch or Wellington) to secure first possession of the Hawke Cup. At the request of the Southland Cricket Association contributions of one shilling and more from persons interested in the progress of Southland cricket will be received at the office of this paper, and acknowledged daily. The fund will close on Wednesday, 25th inst: —

APPROXIMATE A.MOUXT OF FUXD. Enquiries in town of the amounts taken by private collectors give an approximate estimate of the progress of the fund. There are about twenty lists out, eight of them circulating in the Eastern District. The following totals give some idea of the- practical sympathy accorded the movement locally, the bulk of .Messrs Doig and Patton’s lists having been acknowledged through the “News” ;

There are other lists in circulation in town, and collectors are requested to send in their totals periodically in order that the Association may be kept posted as to the result.
