THE CHEESE SELLING SCHEME

The Executive of the South Island Dairy Association mot in Dunedin on Wednesday, when replies were received from the various factories in regard to the scheme for the disposal of the South Island dairy produce. As to cheese, most of the larger factories in Southland notified their support to transactions beins made through the instrumentality of the Association, but opinions differed between dealings taking the form of auctions or private sales. The smaller organisations as well £s the new factories were, however, inclined to await results before promising their co-opera-tion.

Information was received by the Executive from reliable quarters in England that the existing, haphazard mode of sale caused the cheese to be placed on the markets at a disadvantage, and it was considered certain that a concentration of the output would bring about much better results.

The decision of the meeting was that the question of auction sales should not be carried into effect unless greater support was forthcoming, but that the Association should make suitable arrangements for private sales in the Dominion through its own agency, and also make provision for direct consignments (where that policy v/as favoured) through certain firms " at Home."
