In t?ie Republican campaign handbook the President favours revision of the tariff, with a separate schedule upon the basis of the Tariff Commission's estimates as to the cost of production both at home and abroad.' Tlie extortions of American producers would no longer be tolerated. KE ROOSEVELT SPEAKS. NEW YORK, Aug. 24. Mr Roosevelt declares that he is very much pleased with Mr Taft's statement about New York politics. Mr Roosevelt adds : "I am ready to attend the Convention. The ' issues are absolutely clean cut, and as far as I am concerned there will not be a particle of compromise." A SHREWD MOVE. NEW YORK, Aug. 25 Received Aug. 25, 10.45 p.m. Mr Taft's proposal to reframe. when necessary, certain specified schedules wherof he admits the need of revision, is regarded as a shrewd move to conciliate the insurgents of the party.
