MATAURA’S BAND.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A public meeting called for the purpose of re-starting the brass band was held in McGregor’s hall on 16th inst, and was well attended. Mr Penny was voted to tho chair, and in opening he explained that the meeting had been called In response to a requisition signed by thirty citizens willing to become members to have tho baud started again in practice. The secretary (Mr Louden) read tho balance-sheet, which showed a balance in hand of 2a 6d, with outstanding debts for advertising, etc., amounting to £1 13s, whilst all instruments and uniforms were free of debt. It was resolved that a new committee be elected, and that members of the old band meet and enrol new members, according to the rules, T. Carroll to convene the meeting of old members of the band. The following new committee was elected; —Messrs J. Penny, J. Hamilton, J. Lowden, T. Barr, J. Waddell. F. Steel, P. McCubhin. Mr John Penny was elected president of the band. At a meeting of committee held afterwards Mr J. Penny was appointed chairman of committee.
