MANGLED BY A TRAIN. (Per United Prces Association.) WANGANUI, April 30. A shocking accidcnl occurred at the railway station to-night. As the It o’clock train was drawing into the station a man named Albeit Benefield, aged 30, and married, who owns a fruiterer’s simp in the Avenue, fell between the carriages. His left arm was cut off above the elbow and bis left log was mangled below tiie knee. The unfortunate man was dragged for about seventeen yards and the injured limbs were horribly mutilated. His head also was injured, and the doctor holds out no hope of his recovery. STARTLING COLLISION. CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. A startling collision between an electric car and a heavy waggon attached to a traction engine occurred on the Uicearton line to-night. The traction engine, with several waggons attached, was being driven along (he (rain track, no lights being shown either in front or behind, and the car, which was travelling at the rate of 16 miles an hour, crashed Into the rear waggon. The forepart of the car was crumpled up, but the motorman and passengers miraculously escaped without injury.
