TWO DESTBOYEES DAMAGED. ONE CUT IN TWO. 1033 OF LIFE. V Telegraph.— Pre* Association.—Copyright. - LONDON, April 28. The sGout ship Attentive rammed the destroyer Gala during night manoeuvres in the vicinity of Kentish Knock sandbank. The Gala was cut In halves, and sank. Engineer Lieut. Drought was killed In his berth. Fifteen destroyers accompanied the Attentive, which struck the Gala abaft the engine-room. The forepart sank, but the alterpart, with tho crew, was towed into shallow water, the destroyer Garry there rescuing those aboard.
The scout Adventure also damaged the destroyer Riddle, which returned to Sheerneas. HOW COLLISION OCCUKBED. STEAMING- WITH MASKED LIGHTS. ANOTHEB FATAL ACCIDENT. FIYB MEN KILLED. LONDON, April 29. Received AprU 29, 11.30 p.m. The Admiralty states that Lieutenant Fletcher, not Lieutenant Drought, Is missing. The Gala and fifteen destroyers attacked the Attentive and Adventure, which were manoeuvring with masked lights In a very rough sea. Following the Ettrlck's successful attack the Adventure, Gala, Ripple and Teviot, at a speed of 12 knots, attacked the Attentive, which, seeing that a collision was inevitable, turned on her search light. The Attentive struck the Gala on the port side, cutting her completely in two. The forepart soon sank and the stern part floated away and subsequently sank. The crew was rescued except Lieutenant Fletcher, who is supposed to have been killed while asleep in his cabin. The Attentive, after getting clear of the Gala, struck the Ripple, knocking a large hole in her side and flooding two compartments. The battleship Britannia, voyaging from Queensberry, Portsmouth, burst one of her boiler tubes, seriously injuring five men.
THE ST. PAUL-GLADIATOR COLLISION. "ACCIDENTAL DEATH." LONDON, April 29. Received April 29, 11.40 p.m. The Coroner directed the jury at the inquest on those who perished in the Gladiator collision, that no criminal responsibility had been disclosed and a verdict of accidental death was returned.
