Political Labour League
A meeting of the above was held In the Union Booms on Monday night. The president t.Mr U N'eil) occupied the Chair, and there was a good attendance of members. A letter was received from the Town Council refusing to let the Victoria Hall for a lecture by Miss Powell on Sunday, 2-nd .May. Mr K. Boss, secretary of the Minors' t'nion, Nightcaps, wrote stating that arrangements had been made for Miss Powell to deliver an address In Gi'lltln's hall, Nightcaps.—The secretary was instructed to write thanking Mr Ross for his assistance in this matter. Sundry accounts were received and passed for payment. The committee that had been appointed to arrange for Miss I'owell's addresses reported that arrangements had been made for Miss Powell to appear in VVlnton, Otautau, Nightcaps, Colac Bay; Orepuki, Mukurewa', and Invercargill. It was moved by Mr Gilmun, and seconded by Mr Lumsdun, thut future meetings of the League be held on alternate Monday evenings. The motion was carried, Mr Johnson moved that the attention of the Government be drawn to the operations of the llounnillurs.' trusts and bakers' associations, and that the Government be urged to enter Into competition with the said trusts and associations in order to secure bread to the consumers at reasonable prices. The motion was seconded by Mr Campbell, and after considerable discussion was carried. A conversational discussion followed re the advisability of forming a literary and debating club In connection with the League. It was decided to test the feeling of the League with regard to this matter at the next meeting.
