The School Committee elections passed off last nignt without attracting much attention, except in the case of the South School, where there was, comparatively, a monster meeting and some controversy. The subject of contention was whether or not the Committee had been justified in making tho now famous appointment of Mr A, Bain, jnr., to the position of first assistant. There was a deal of discussion, some of it acrimonious, and some playful pleasantries were indulged in, mostly by Mr Bain and his detractors. The faction opposed to the old committee was, however, very much outnumbered, and eventually only one of last year’s members lost liis seat. Of course a ballot was necessary, and there was a count of, votes which occupied several scrutineers for an hour, so that it was after eleven, o’clock before the householders wont home.
