A New Rabbit Destroyer
It is reported that the acetylene gaa spraying machine has been successfully tried for the destruction of rabbits. Sit is stated that in two or three mimitpa, with the use of the Tyree injector, * a burrow dan be filled with the gas, which is so poisonous to them that in five) mtpH utes every rabbit will be hilled. As the gas is driven in at a pressure of 80lb to 1001b per square inch, every PArt of the burrow is quicMy reached by the go 9 from two hoses, and a largo uumbec of burrows may be treuitod in a day. The total cost, per day for material, it is claimed, is act more than Is or ®s Fon a few days a large machine can bo seen at Dr. Benjafield’s orchard. MoOjjafc. An account has been published of two tests on Mr Charles Harvey’s larm at Crookwell, New South Wales, id both of which a large number of rabbits wore killed, -Mr Harvey writes ; 'ln No. 1 test a marked rabbit was placed In the burrow, and on opening the burrow if was not found on Friday, but on Saturday morning when Mr Lesmond and myself visited the farm, we could nsit find any trace of the rabbit having left the warren, and on opening a small pocket a short distance from the main burrow we found the marked ralbtoit, together with fifteen others, quite dead. X am very well pledged with the result of this trial, and have no hesitation in
stating that the Tyree rabbit destroyer is the (best metans ol destroying the pest. My opinion is (Nat if the burrows (ure not, interfered with, not one can escape the deadly poison, and as they remain in the burrow no nuisance is caused’, umi no animal or bird is affected by the poison.’’—Hobart Mercury.
