THE SOUTHERN TOURNEY. - Per United Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 23. The tournament was resumed to-day under favourable weni.i r conditions, but the gneens were still the heavy side-' The entry was a record one and It was necessary to ballot out 16 pairs in order to bring down the matches to the accommodation of the greens. The balloting was restricted to Dunedin competitors and - this had the effect ol depriving some of the best of the local bowlers of participating and robbed the championship of a good of interest os W. McLaren, T. Sneddon, Duric, Gilmour and Gillies were among tbe victims. All the sections were competed, hut a number of ties remain to bo played off. To-monpw morning the two games necessary to complete the sections of the rink championships will also be played. Following are the results of to-day’s play in the doubles*’ —

NOTES ON THE PLAY. By Telegraph. From Our Own Correspondent). DUNEDIN, Jan. 23. The Southland players were scattered all over the greens to-day and it is difficult to get particulars about all of them. Johnston, Podget, Leggttt, and England. Brockje and Crawford bad to go out to Taieri to play their games. Johnthon, beggut, Mclntyre and Price all tie with four wins out of the five games. The piny-off in cases of ties will take place on Thursday. Erskine and Erskino went to St. Kilda, where they Won four games ; a Wellington pair gaining a like i.uniter. R. Erskino was drawing to the ■Tack with unerring precision in most of ids games. On the Dunedin green T. hock, with three wins, played against Keast (foun wins) at the 16th end. In the play-off Ussher, (Lock's lead) got in a beauty just the kitty and Keast drove with all four bow)*, the last effecting the desired result and winning the Caledonians; Kpaet thus wfam his seclion. There were four Northend pairs hilled for Roslyn, Halit sad Wallace, Findley and Adlan. ' Lockjaad Harper. A. E.
