Opium Smoking

Per United Press Association., DUNEDIN, Sept. 4. At the Police Court, Kong Bing was convicted of smoking opium and fined 40s and costs. Accused told the constable that he was ill, and had to smoke Opium. Ah Fee, on the same charge, was fined the same penalty. A charge against Ah Hoy, of having opium in his possession suitable for smoking, was dismissed ownership not being proved. Accused was convicted for permitting smoking in a dwelling occupied by him, and was lined £5 and costs. He was also convicted of smoking opium and fined 20s and costs. Ah Young, for having opium in his possession suitable for smoking, was lined £5 and costs. Counsel had Is added to the fine so that he might appeal. The same accused was lined 40s and costs for smoking opium.
