Colonial Preserved Fruit

A new • colonial industry, the Teviot Fruit -Preserving Company, is now represented.in the colony’s markets, and it is not hazarding anything to predict that their brands will soon be -found in every home, where tinned fruits are appreciated as a handy and delicate form of dessert. Mr W; N. Stirling has received a consignment of peaches, pears, and apricots, and we are able to state, after an exhaustive investigation of tho contents, that the Teviot product is equal to the imported article in get-up and is possibly, superior to it in quality, The fruit opens out whole and in sound condition, while the fresh natural flavour is a point in its favour which householders will welcome—and relish. Tho opening of fruit-canning works will be tho mea.ns ol saving an mmense quantity of fruit which is annually wasted, and It is tt matter for congratulation that tho newworks are able to market a product, which, in point of price and quality will, favourably compete with American tinned; fruit. Mr Stirling intends to stock tho- " Tui Brand,” tho first quality, and liewill retail it at the same price as theimported goods. Tho people will have tho satisfaction of knowing, ..when buying, this preserved fruit, that specially picked fruit is used and that- it is freshly curm- _ ed. There is no reason therefore why tha Teviot product should not displace the foreign brands in our markets, and coma into general use as an inexpensive tabla delicacy.
