Mr Gerald Balfour, President of the Board of Trade, has appointed a committee to enquire into the working of the Small Holdings Act and to report on the best methods cf promoting an increase of holdings. Lord Onslow is president, and Lord Carrington and Mr Jesso (.oilings, M.P., are among the members. During torpedo manoeuvres at Berehaven the destroyer Syren grounded on a reef, and her back nas broken.
Severe earthquake shocks have occurred at Llangollen, Denbighshire. The river Dec suddenly overflowed, threatening homesteads.
