The monthly meeting of the Jn v crcargill branch of this F'ederttvion was held yesterday evening, the President', Mr M. Gilfedder, m the chair. Much discussion look place regarding the increase of t owdyism in the colony, and the best methods of preventing such ruffianism and crime. Mr Woods resigned ti e secretaryship on account of pressure cf other business, but stated he would do all he could as a member to further the interests of the branch and Liberal politics generally. Jhe chairman and several members expressed th-ir views as regards tho services rendered by Mr Woods, and he was accorded a vote of thanks lor past services. Mr Selby was elected to fill the vacancy. It was resolved to confer with the Bluff branch i espectinir the most convenient time to hi-kj the next meeting of delegates oi Southland branches at Bluff.
