The Land Commission

Per United Press Association

WAIAU, April 19.

The Commission took evidence this afternoon at Waiau. Several Lyndon tenants complained that thenrents were too high, but the majority’ were in favour of the leasehold tenure. Annan tenants were, satisfied with present conditions, but complained of the non-construction of the promised road to the settlement. Another complaint made was that the settlements were loaded

with the excessive cost of constructing expensive roads. ... Walter Rutherford, formerly a large landholder, favoured the lease in perpetuity’ system with periodic revaluations.

The Commission will hear evidence at Hawarden 1 to-morrow.
