The social had been organised by several of the leading farmers, -Mr ifalliday, Itoslyn Bush. as president, and Mr P. Gilfedder, secretary, as a tribute to one who had been a most -•ojiulur and esteemed farmer. Mr J. E. Watson occupied the chair, and briefly t-xpressed his pleasure at being present to ;.o honour to lli- Crombio, though he would have preferred that one of that gentleman's more immediate neighbours was in the position of chairman. They could only regret that a man of such sterling worth was going to leave the district. Mr Crombio had 1 proved himself a thoroughly upright and honourable man, us well as a imodel farmer, and, while sorry he was leaving, all would hope that he would some day' " tak' a thocht " to wander back again. After several vocal and instrumental items had been contributed, the chairman called on Mr ITalliday to present a gold watch and chain to Mr Crombie. This Mr Halliday did, referring with particular appreciation to the n'dmirable qualities possessed by their guest. Mr Crombie had on every possible occasion given his assistance to anything which would advance the district, and he was held in the very highest regard by ull who knew him. The residents tendered their sorrow at his departure, with the hope that every happiness and prosperity would attend him. in his new home. Mr Crombie made a feeling response, thanking his friends for tho great kindness always shown him, and this latest token of their esteem. Several others added their appreciation to j that expressed by the chairman, after which the concert was resumed. Refreshments were shortly afterwards served, and the social wound up with a very enjoy- i able dance.
