Dental Act Prosecution

Per United Press Association. HAWEKA, Jan 28. What whs stated to be the first case of the kind in the colony was heard by the Magistrate yesterday, under Clause 3 of the Dental Act. 1880. The prosecution was at the instance of tho Dentists' Association. S. B. Hunter, not being a registered dentist, was charged with exhibiting in his window a placard stating '• Kickapoo. A complete set of teeth extruded with administration of gas." The prosecution sought to prove that ' Kickapoo " was Hunter'B trading name, tiut the defence alleged that " Kickapoo " was the name of the business. It was admitted that defendant extracted teeth, but denied that he styled himself a dentist. The prosecution argued that the placard meant to indicate that Hunter was a qualified dentist. Judgment was reserved Tho decision will affect a number of businesses throughout the colony.
