(By "Outrigger."). Matters in connection with rowing at the Awarua Club's shed have been brisk, and interesting during the past week, the heats in the club races for the captain's medals having provided good contests. On only one occasion was a (r?w defeated by more than a length in the first round. Nichol and O. .Johnston Tjeat Roberts and Kiernan by three lengths; Johnston arid Cooper treat Valentine and Wilson by a bare length after a close race ; Rose and King beat Joosten and Bust after a fine race, the boats having been in line from start to finish, and the win was by the narrow margin of one foot. In the second round Johnston and Cooper beat Nichol and Johnston by three-parts of a length after an exciting race; and Hose and King beat Spencer and Uifford by a length after a very fair race. The final 19 to 1)0 rowed this (Monday) evening when Rose and King meet .Johnston and Cooper. 1 understand the following cre-ws have been selected to represent the club at Riverton regatta :—Junior and maiden four : J. Johnston, J. P. Roberts, R. A. Rose, and C. Johnston. Youths' four : R. A. Rose, W. Cooper J, uiflord, and E. Bust. Maiden and junior double sculls ; V. Metzger and W. Wpencer. Maiden pair; J. Johnston and J. P. Roberts. Matters jn connection with the Ocean Beach Club seem to have been quiet during the past week, and it is rarely one sees a crew out. I think the small membership of this club is a great drawback to it, and that it would be most beneficial to themselves, and in the interests of rowing generally, if they would amalgamate with the Awarua club, and moke one strong club, instead of a medium and «tt weak club, as at present. Those popular members of the Awarua Club, H. Joosten and E. A. Nichol, bave decided to taker no prominent part in rowing this season—at any rate, as far as rowing- at regattas is concerned, and it. is chiefly through this that Bluff sends no senior four to Riverton.
