Per United Presa Association. (By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) SYDNEY. April 30 Tho central board charged -with the ad mm &1 ration of the Oid Age Pensions Act, in their first official report, points out a number of defects in the Act which the Cioveriuuent will probably amend this session. The mode of payment through a bank involves a greater outlay than under the N.Z. system. The board points out that if the latter's sysI torn were adopted it would save £8000 ' a year. Although the wording of the Act is the same as in the N.Z. >measTire, the qualifications for pensions providing for twelve months' prior destitution >vus, on the advice of the Attorney-General, dispensed with in favour of the person being destitute at the time of the grant- j ing of the pension. The bocwd finds that as the rental of a small tenement ab- J ! sorbs the bulk of a pension. 15s a wefck should be granted to married couples | They advise the erection of cottages for j pensioners at the State's expense, and estimate that comfortable quarters could be provided at 3s 6d a week ; that is. interest on £30 at 3 per cent. — i
