Jn the House of Conftnons Mr S. Buxton moved, anil Mr Maciywnara seconded, a motion for the rejection of -the London Education Bill, contending., that the uruuicipalisation of metropolitan education was practically impossible, and it would be better to adhere to the ad hoc principle. Mr Balfour said that if the leading principles of the Bill wer« accepted, the Government would not object to a modification, and. hinted "that the County Council's representati6n on the Education Committee might be increased.

The London -County Council, by q, large majority, condemned the TMueation Bill, and advocated the creation M a direct IJ- electerl education authority. •
