Owing to steady rain tho match with the Englishmen could not he resumed today and il was abandoned.
An enjoyable match was played on the Eastern Reserve on Monday between teams representing the grain merchants and the batiks. Tho former had first, use of the wickets and scored ££.' — Borno 30, Tapley 24, and sundries lli, being the principal run-^gettcrs. Tho banks paid out better, their total reaching ' 149— Taylor 57 and Hoss 48 putting on over 1(>() for the second wicket, and hitting strongly all round. No howling analysis was kept, which wus'a most unbusinesslike lapse, but Taylor, 5 wickets, and Tapley, 7, were tao most successful trundlers for their sides. Refreshments provided by Mr lluddlestolie were much appreciated by the players and others, and three cheers were given for tho providory at the close or tho game.
The match. Star B v. Appleby. will bo concluded on the Eastern Reserve today, commencing at 2 p.m. A match between Broad, Small and Co. and the combined ironmongers bogins on tho old I.C.C. ground at &.30 p.m.
