AUSTRALIAN CABLES.
(United Press Association — By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) PROPOSED VANCOUVER SERVICE A MINISTER IN TROUBLE MELBOURNE, Dec. 13. It is understood that Mr David Mills submitted to Sir E. Barton a proposal that L 40,000 be paid for an up-to-date Vancouver mail service. It is believed the amount named does not commend itself to the Federal Government. Possibly the contract may be extended at any rate for a short period on a basis approximating the present arrangement. ADELAIDE, Dec. 13. A search disclosed a little wreckage at Kangaroo Island and Port Victor, but no indication as to what vessel it belonged to. FREMANTLE, Dec. 13. The Reverend Tremayne Dunstan, who is a passenger by the Oruba, states that he left Sydney owing to his strained financial position. He intended to make a lecturing tour of America, but, on arriving, found it impossible to fulfil his intention in consequence of exaggerated statements published concerning him. He then decided to return to Australia, where he will remain till he has cleared himself.
