Wirth Bros.’ Circus.
It, is some time since Invercargill his been favoured with a visit from an up-to d iie circus, and, therefore, tho atinouiiwineiit that Messrs Wirth Bros, would appear with their combination of talented artists was received with general ploasute. The touts were erected in tho usual space in Ro-lte s paddock, and tho season opened last even ing with a capital house. 'I ho first tent is occapiid as a show room for the im-uagerir-, and the different- wild animals from the King of Beasts (a spl ndid auinia ) down t-a tho harmless little monkey were critically itisp icicd. The elephant is as expert a beggar as ever ho was, and some of tho younger people found a good deal of amusement in feeding him oi a fow pocket dolicacirs. Tho performing tent is a commodious one lighted by acelyline gas, and tho seating airangrnieatß make ample provision to allow everyone to see the fun properly. It is almost iinpossib.e to enter into a detailed description of the entertainment, as its variety is never omhiig, and tho general smartness and despatch oi all tho items beyond all praise. The equestrian feats are pariiculaily good, ami several of them entirely now. A serpentine dance i n horseback, by M iss M arizles, is a wonderful effort, ami the effect is hiightenod by limeligh flash, s. The gymnastic feats were introduced by Mons. Pedro and it. Strielj and Mr Vautell, all of whom astounded tho audience bv the daring and skilfu l nature of their various manoeuvres. Mons. Ragoul reproduced his tiger acts, which were received with strained attention and bieathli-sr admiialion. for the almost supernatural control he exercises over the fiercest and most citiel o. animals. A marvellous contortion act wae given by Lit'le Masinga, who evidently possesses no bones at all, or what she has are made of some very clastic substance. It is needless to say that the comic element was very strong throughout tho entertainment. Several of the items were mirth provoking in themselves, and assisted b) able clowning were irresistibly funny, Jhe circus will open again this evening, and the public are strongly recommended to visit it.
