The steamer Westralia sailed for Melbourne at daybreak yesterday, and the Talune, for Dunedin at 2 p.m. The steamer Kangatira from London, has arrived at Port Chalmers. The P. and O. Co.’s steamers Assaye, Plassey, Sicilia, Soudan, and Syria have been chartered by the Imperial Giveminent fur the Indian trooping service for the nix months ending March next. The earlier voyages under the charter will bo marie by the Cape route in order to provide for the ttansfer of troops from South Afiica to India. The steamship Kaiser Wilhelm uer Grosse steamed from Bremen to New York recently in 5 days 15 hours 20 minutes, thus healing her previous record of 5 days 16 hours 14 minutes. The four full days’ runs were, 557, 550, 561, and 564 knots, the total distancs being 3049 knots, and the avenge epeed 22’53 knots per Jiour. A fortnight later the Krongreinz Wilhelm arrived at New York from Bremen 26 minutes ahead of the Deutchland’s fastest westward time. [By Telegraph]. Auckland, Oct. 28.
