The balance-sheet and reporl were unanimously adopted. Letters frorr the Merkham Trading Co., New York, whe have the patent rights for America, showed that they had spared neither trouble not expense in the manufacture of the invention intimated that all difficulties in respect of the machine for hat pins had been overcome and that it wap now working satisfactorily, as evidenced hy samples shown at the mee'ting. The manufacturers of the hairpin ma chine were keeping well up to their coutract and the machine could be expected by the end of February or beginning of Match. The Merkham Co. expressed every confidence in the success of the invention. The directors for the coming year are Messrs Wm. Wesney (chairman), W. Todd, C. S. Longuet, E. R. Godward, Donald Reid, jnr., E. B. McKay, D. A. Mitchell, D. W. McKay, and John Matheson. New Century Curler Co. + — _ — The first meeting of shareholders in this company was held yesterday evening, when there was a large attendance. The curler is oa sale in the United States, and a consignment for New Zealand left New York early in January. Messrs D. W. McKay and E. R. Godward were authorised to proceed to Melbourne to complete arrangements already entered upon for the manufacture of the curlers there, and to appoint selling agents for the Commonwealth. The saving effected by the company through manufacturing in the colonies is expected to be considerable. These representatives will visit the principal centres in Australia and New Zealand to introduce the business of the company. It was reported that Continental rights were being negotiated for. The headquarters for the enterprise will be in Invercargill. The directors appointed for the ensuing year are Messrs C. S. Longuet (chairman), William Todd, William Wesney, D. A. Mitchell, E. B. McKay, E. R. Godward, D. W. McKay, and A. F. Hawke.
