The F.Z. Troops

Wellington, Jan. 25.

The Orient with the returned troopers for Wellington district arrived early this morning. Afterwards Messrs Ward, Walker and lulls and tho Mayor of Wellington went on board and cordially wolcomea the men, who landed without demonstration. They were entertained at luncheon at the drill hall, but the proceedings wore formal and qiiiet. The following troopers who returned by the Orient have been appointed actinglieutenants in the (Sixth Contingent, subject to the appointments being confirmed by the Imperial authorities in South Africa Corporals Morrison,Macdonald and Mitchell, Privates Wood, Wallis and Blenkhorn. Captain Smith, of the Raglan Mounted Rifles, who came into camp expecting to get a commission in the 6th, is not going to South. Africa.

The following have been appointed noncommissioned officers in tho Canterbury and Otago sections of the Sixth Contingent:— No. 19 company (Canterbury)—Sergt.major: A. H. Jones (2nd Contingent); farrier sergeant : G. Rouse ; sergeants; J. K. Jackson-(2nd Contingent), G. W. L. Mehrteus, E. G. Smith, and P. T. Shand ; corporals: G. Smyth (Ist Contingent), L. Cabot (Ist Contingent), W. Moor, A. M. Mclntosh (4th Contingent); lanco-corporals: J. Valentine, R. G. Porter, E. Willis (4th Contingent), N. D. Robertson (2nd Contingent); ougler: C. T. Flyger. No. 20 company (Otago)—Sergt.-major : H. W. Smith; farrier sergeant: N. J. Crozier; sergeants : H. Boatmen, J. L. Taylor, W. Lonigan and A. H. Jones; corporals : 0. M. Lowin (Ist Contingent), E. Duncan, H. Kippert and C. Cunningham; lance corporals : W. Cook, J. T. Martin, C. E. Griffiths and J. Bishop; bugler : G. Collins. Canterbury Rough Riders—Sergeant B. L. Hodgson, Corporal L. Salt, Lance Corporal Hutton. The Cornwall, with the Sixth Contingent on board, will leave for Auckland at 6 p.m. to-morrow.
