Bluff Harbour Board

Friday, 25th December.

The ordinary meeting was attended by Messrs J. W. Mitchell (chairman), E, Pollard, R. Dunlop, J. E. Watson, I. W. Raymond, J. P. Roberts and A. Carmichael.

The minutes of the last meeting having been read, the Chairman moved and Mr Watson seconded that the Board adjourn as a mark of respect' to the Queen’s memory. Both speakers said a few appropriate words and the motion was carried unanimously. To save public inconvenience the Board met again later to transact business. The Slipway Committee recommended that the slipway be offered for sale by public tender and that the matter of constructing a slipway be referred to the new Board.— Adopted. The time for receiving tenders for the coalhulk Titan was extended till next meeting. The question of what part tho Board should take in the reception of the Imperial troops, whether they should combine with the Campbelltown Corporation or take other action, was left in the hands of the'Chairman.

The secretary reported that the audit of the accounts for last year had been completed and that the documents had, as usual, been forwarded to the Audit Office prior to their being printed. The return of ordinary revenue showed receipts only £lBl less than those of last year notwithstanding that the Board had remitted rates and charges to the extent of £lOOO and that a number of vessels had passed the port owing to the plague scare. Before the Board adjourned the Chairman said that as this was the last meeting of tho Board he would take the opportunity of thanking members for their careful attention to the business of the Board during their term of office, and of congratulating them on the steady progress and prosperity of the port. He also tendered them his personal thanks for their courtesy to him ana for the kind assistance they had rendered him in his capacity as chairman. Mr Raymond moved, and Mr Watson seconded, that the Board’s thanks to the chairman be inscribed in the minutes for his unceasing attention and valuable services during the past term of two years, Mr Watson remarking that one of the first things the new Board should tackle should be the obtaining of an amendment of the law that would enable Harbour Boards' to vote an honorarium to their chairman, in the same way as Borough and County Councils were empowered to do, Mr Watson’s remarks met with general concurrence.—The motion having been put and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
