[By Teleobaph.] Chkistciiubch Dec. 17. At the Christcburch Club's meeting to-day the principal event was the final heat of the wheel race. The back markers failed to get up and the race was wpn by R. Connell •(Temuka), a promising lad. £120 was taken at the gates. Following are the results :— Second-class Handicap ; one mile- final : R. Connell, 40yds ; J. Orr, 75yds; G. Lewis 30yds. Won by three quarters of a length. Time— 2 urin. 10 sees. Half-Mile Handicap— lst heat: G. Sutherland, scratch jM. Randrup, 30yds ; time— 1 mm. 30 sees. 2nd heat : H. L. Williams, 90ydsj A. Hueston, 50yda ; time— l rain. 2 l-sth sees. 3rd heat : G. Lewis, 00yds; T. Hammon, 80yds ; time — 1 mm 1 l-sth sees. 4th heat: W. Clarkson, 55yds; A. R. Barker 20yda ; time— l mm. 0 4-sfch sees. sth heat : C. C. Williams, 105 yds ; J. Orr, 80yds; time— l mm. Amateur Wheel Race ; two miles— W. H. Harman, 220 yds ; A. B. Cuslott, 220 yds ; H. Ames, Scr. ; time — i miru 40 3-oth sees. Second heat t C. Hayward, 160 yds : W. E. Massey, 200 yds ;S. Boyd 190 yds ; time— 4 mm. 40 sees. N. Z. Wheel Race ; 2 miles— R Lonnell (Temuka) 180 yds, ;l ; G. Lewis 150 yds, 2 ; T. Hammqli (Kaiapoi) 240 yds 3. G. Sutherland, A. R. Barker, M. Randrup, W. Glarkson, W. E. Anderson, H. Gunthorpe, A. Pirle and C. A. Best also started. The front men made the pace hot from the start and the back markers, who disagreed amongst themselves, were unable to bridge the gap. When the bell rang Connell, who was lying second, shot to the front and though challenged iuthe straight by Lewis, won by two lengths.
