Some shocking details were narrated of the cruelties to which these animals are subjected. It was confessed that the Society was powerless. George Slater, aged 25, -was killed at Macraes to-day. Three horses from a waggon were startled while at a water trough and bolted towards the waggon. Deceased was holding one of the horses in the waggon, lest it should take fright, when one of the loose horses collided with him. He fell and it is supposed that his head came into contact with a stone as he died half an hour afterwards. The application for a new trial in the case in which Miss McKenzie recovered £800 damages from the Roslyn Tram Company is to be abandoned and the damages and costs will be paid.
