Our Defenca Schema
[By Telegraph.] CIIRISTi.IIUKCH, Nov. 1. The following letter has been received by the Premier from General White :-- "Gibraltar, Sept. 10. Sir — I have had the honour to receive the defence scheme laid before the New Zealand House of Representatives on 20th July last and beg to thank you for sending it to me. The value of military training in otir colonies has been brought home to us with peculiar force by the loyal support that New Zealand and other* colonies have given the Imperial forces in South Africa, and no war could pofsibly afford more convincing example of the powerful defence that may be organised in even a small population than what the Boers have accomplished by a system of careful forearming, combined with organisation and military training. 1 have not the experience of your local conditions that would enable me to offer an opinion upon the scheme, but it seems to promise excellent results and I hope the money may be forthcoming to give it a fair trial. — I have, etc., Geo. S. White, General.''
