New Zealand Dairy Produce

, —m. Messrs John McNairn and Co, colonial produce merchants, report under date 19th February : — Butter has been in improved demand since our last. The reduction mentioned then has had the eflect of stimulating sales, and this week there has been more tone in the market with the expectation of probably higher prices next week. Butter from all quarters is very scarce, and this year there will be good prices got for colonial throughout the entire season. Cheese— Canadian and States sell freely at higher prices, and are now in small compass. Summer-made Canadian and States are nearly off the list. Choice Scotch cheese are Scarce. The S.S. Nairushire has arrive.l from New Zealand with a large lot of cheese for us, which we expect will laud here this week, and for which we shall obtain 58s to 60s. We never in all our experience saw American cheese so scarce as they are now, and there being no stocks anywhere, New Zealand's will arrive in first-class markets, and 62s if not G4s might be got next month. With the very low rates of freight which we have specially arranged bctwecu London and Glasgow, the prices obtained here are much better than those in the English markets. Since our last, trade has been dull, but we always look for this in the month of February. With reference to direct steamers between the colony and Liverpool and Glasgow, we can only further say that if the colonists could use their influence to guarantee a certain amount of freight it would be an easy matter to have steamers put on direct, *nd that at once ; but it would be necessary to hive a certain guarantee before any company would put in reirigerators for the Liverpool and Glasgow Hade. With, however, the large populations iv these iwo ports aud surrounding distrk-s, we must say there is plenty of demand tor frozen mutton and all dairy produce to till up the refrigerators once a fortnight.
