New Zealand University.

[Ry Telegraph.] Christchurch, Feb. 26. At a meeting of the Senate to-day Dr Cowie ptesented a petition from certain : graduates of the University in support of the admission to University decrees of women who had pstssed the examination of I Cambridge from the Girton and Newnham : Colleges. The petition is to be considered with the Chancellor's address. The results of the December examinations were agreed to, and the Junior Scholarships for 1890 awarded in accordance with the report. The committee recommenced that the dei gree of Bachelor of Laws be conferred on the following: — Robert Stuart Collie, 8.A.; Martford Kimbel 1 , Frederick E. Baume ; Alfred R. Meek, M.A. ; John Innea, M.A. ; 1 Robert McNab, M.A. ; and Henry \V. i Wostuu. It was reported that F. G. Dal- ■ ziel had passed the Solicitors' Law examination. Select committees were appointed to take into consideration the questions raised in the Chancellor's report. Feb. 27. j This afternoon the Senate appointed Dr I Ned will (Christchurch) and Dr Brown (Dun- : ediu) to represent the University at tho ' Hygiene and Demography Congress in Londuu. The Senate decided that it has no power to grant decrees to persons who have not degrees from other Universities except on its own examinations ; that instead of a certificate in surgery the degree and diploma j of Bachelor of surgery be granted.
