Athletic Championship Meeting.

[ BY TULR'-RAPH.] Auckland, Feb. 6. The athletic and bicycling championship meeting under the auspices of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and ' ''./yclists Alliance opened to-day in the Domain, about 2CKK) persons being present. The sport throughout was capital and the times excellent, the New Zealand amateur record being broken in many cases. The results of the championship events were as follows : — Three-mile walk — A. F. Burton (Auckland), 1 ; H. S. Cocks (Christchurch), 2 ; G, Pearce (Auckland), 3. There were six starters. Bailey, the only Sydney competitor, when going well was disqualified for breaking. Won by about eight yards, lime— 23 mins. 37 110 th sees. The 250 yards flat race ww won by W. T. McPherson (Sydney) ; J. N. King (Wellington), 2 ; A. E. Sefton (Sydney), 3. Two others started. Won easily. Time —24 3-10 th sees. Five mile bicycle race —A. C. Wilimnt (Christchurch), 1 ; S. R. Steadman (Taieri), 2; P. Ledsham (Christchurch), 3. Fourothersßtarted. Won by 15 yards. Time — 1") mins. 58 4-lPths sees. High jump — Hume (Wellington) and Lawrie (Auckland) drew at 5 feet 3 inches. Half- mile fiat race— D. Wood (Christchurch), 1 ; J. F. Grieraon (Christchurch), 2 ; W. W. Winks (Auckland), 3. One other starter. Time — 2mins. The 120 yards hurdles was won by H. W. Batger (Wellington); W. J. Moir (Christchurch), 2! B.Owen (Auckland), 3. Won easily. Time — 16 2-otha sees. !Ten mile bicycle race — Witmott, 1 ; S. R. Steadman, 2; Selby (Auckland), 3. Three other starters. Only ,the placed men finished. Won by a •yard after a magnificent race between Wilinott and Steadman. Time — 33 mins. 2\ sees. Long jump — Upfill (Auckland) beat Mackay (Auckland) and Batger (Wellington), jumping 20 leet4inches. He subsequently jumped 20 feet 9 inches, beating the New Zealand record. One mile flat race — Wood (Christchurch), 1; E. E. Corner (Sydney), 2; Grierson (Cnrisc<;hurch), 3. One other starter. Time — 4 mins. 31 sees.
