The Agrarian Dispute in Hawkes Bay.
*, TRIAL FOR MURDER. [By Telegbaph.j Wellington, Oct. 29. The Omahu murder case was opened in the Supreme Court to-day. Mr Cotterill, for the prosecution, detailed the circum stancoß of the crime. Waatarawi, the prisoner, first shot at Turanga with a bulldog revolver, hittiDg him in the back, b*low the right fihoulder. He tried to get hia horse through the fence when deceasr-d ran away, and finally rode after him through a gap lower down. He dismounted, chased Turanga, and fired again, the bullet entering above the left hip. This shot eventually proved fatal. The crime was witnessed by a number of natives, including two women, who, more courageous than the others, ran up and assisted Turanga in the struggle- Formal evidence was given by Dr Menzies, Mr Preece, R.M , and others. Tetira Turerao'a evidence bore out tho remarks of counsel and wis corroborated by other natives. At 5.30 p.m. the court adjourned until tomorrow.
