-* (PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, June 16. Mr Hamlin is in the field for Franklin So nth and Mr Moale is out for Rodney. A party of five gentlemen have expressed their intention of giving a bullock, 200 loaves of bread, 20 cheep, a pig, 2 cwt of smoked fish, and potatoes and vegetables as a dinner to poor persons on Monday preceding the Jubilee day. The Very Rev. Mousignor Fynea, Ro man Catholic Vicar-General of Auckland, died this afternoon. The deceased pre late had resided in Auckland since 1849 when he came here from Sydney. In 1851 he was appointed to the charge of Panmnre and Ho wick districts, where he remained about 20 years, and in 1871 was named the parish priest at Parnell. Monsignor Fynes had suffered for some lime past from an internal complaint which was the cause of death. WELLINGTON, June 16. At a meeting of a representative committee of Wellington shareholders in the New Zealand Shipping Company the management was freely criticised, and much dissatisfaction expressed at the difficulty of obtaining information from the directors, and at the continuation of certain practices which shareholders thought costly and unremunerative. Efforts are being made to bring about an improvement. Heavy rain has fallen all day with a fresh wind which this evening has increased to a strong southerly gale. In consequence of slips on the Rimutaka line the Wairarapa trainß were delayed for some hours. The residence of Gr. E, Slmmonde, at Palmeraton North, was destroyed by fire this morning, the occupants having a narrow escape. The building was insured for LIOO in the New Zealand office and the furniture for Ll5O in toe Uoion, CHRISTCHURCE, June 16. The platform of a new Political Association, styled " The Canterbury Electoral Association," is advertised. The "planks" are substantial retrenchment; fair taxation; encouragement to local industries ; and a united Canterbury. The working committee ' consists of substantial electors, principally from the Christchurch and suburban electorates. Up to date LIOOO has beon subscribed for the Jubilee Memorial Home and demonstration. Subscriptions are still coming in freely. DUNEDIN, June 16. At a meeting of the Education Board to-day it was stated that the reduction of the capitation allowance meant^a loss to the Board of LIOOO. It was decided to counsel teachers to assist committees in propei ly expending their money, otherwise a reduction in salaries might ..have to be made. The heavy rain which fell yesterday caused a suspension of traffic this evening on the southern railway line through a portion of the permanent way being washed away at Otakia, on tbeTaieri Plain, The Invercargill express train did not get through. It is believed the line can be repaired early to-morrow. Tho idea of holding a procession on the occasion of opening the Qaeen'a Jubilee Park has been abandoned.
