-♦ Thursday, 9th June. The monthly meeting of the Council was attended by Councillors Johnston (Chairman), McKinnon, B*asfian, Ellia, Walker, Mclntyre, and MePherson. J. 0. Baakio, requested that a larger culvert be pnt on road between sections 205 and 200, Taringatun, a« the present culvert did not take half the water in tim 9 of a flood. — Referred to members for riding and Enginoe^ with power to act. G.'m, Noble, Sootts Gap, called attention to tho state of the road leactirjg from the Gap to Merrivale road.— Engineer to report. Patrick O'M ara called attention to the road from section 141 to Wreys Bush.— Received. James Gardner, Birchwood, objected to be specially rated for a bridge over the Orawia as proposed ; requested that a bridge for Btock and foot passengers b 9 erected below Sharpridge creek, and offered to supply the rough timber if the Couooil paid for the labour. — Consideration deferred to nest meeting. Manager, Waicolo estate, requested the Council to reconsider the matter of allowing swing gates on roads from the Hundred line to Otautau. — Engineer to report on the application. Wuo. Hopcroft, junr., wrote re lease of reserve at Jacobs River Bridge — requesting the Council to grant an extension of six months, or terminate the lease on 11th inst, — The Council agreed to terminate the lease on the 11th met., provided Mr Hopcroft took ft fresh lease for seven ysars at the came rental. Latter from Mr P. P. O'Reilly, applying ! on behalf of Mr J. P. Young for the sum of L 9 13s, being a deposit of L 6 13s made by him in February. 1882, and interest on the same to date. — Received. The sum of L 25 was voted to complete formation in deferred payment block, Waiau, the same to be charged to such deferred payment block. Councillor McKianon moved — That the Council, with due humility, present an address of congratulation to his Exoellency the Governor of the colony npon the approaching Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, expressing thsir love an f admiration towards her as a constitutional sovereign, and thtir continued loyalty, patriotism, and devotion to her as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. In speaking to the motion, Councillor McKinnon referred to the history of the past, and 6tated that only four sovereigns of Eog'and had attained their jubilee.— Heary 111, Edward 111., George 111, and Queen Victoria. He epoke in eulogistic terms of Her Majesty, as well for he excellency of her private life as for her public administration. Her Majesty realised, more than any previous sovereign, the power she had was held in trust for the benefit of her subjects, and not for her own aggrandisement. — Councillor Basatian seconded the motion, whioh was agreed to. Accounts amounting to over L6OO were passed for payment. On the motion of Councillor Walker it was resolved to tako tho necessary steps to lake a poll of the ratepayers in a part of Otautau Riding to ba rated for a loan to construct bridges over Jacob's River, at Yellow Bl'jfi, and over Dack Creek. The by-law regulating the width of wheel tirea and weights to bo carried was further considered at a special mooting, and several alterations made. It waa resolved to pass the bylaw, as amended, by special order — 'ha resolution to be confirmed at next meeting of the Council ; , th" bjla*v to come into force oa the lat of Angnst, 1887.
