The following cablegrams have passed between Sir Julius Yogel and the AgentGeneral on the cable question : — Sir Julius Yogel to Agent-General — Nov. sth : Extension Co, behaving badly. Their officers in our buildings organising Press agitation, Ask Silverton (Telegraph Works) how soon after order given could cable be ready for use ; also would they agree construct, leaving Parliament option purchase or lease for term of years, with undertaking purchase. Agent-General to Sir Julius Vogel — Nov. Btb : (Cable). Been Silverton. Time making, about forty days, voyage and laying, eighty or ninety days. Price reduced to i.155,000 or JL60,000. Reply to other qiiß9tioD,. Wednesday. Agent-Creneral to Sir Julius Vogel — 10th Nov. : (cable) Answer other question postponed till Friday. Meanwhile can arrange with Eastern Company restore status quo ante so that Parliament may consider question next session. Instruct me. Sir Julius Yogel to Agent-General — Nov. 11th : Company behaved very badly, but will agree to status quo ante for six months, provided Press rates lowered to threepence with guarantee that Press revenue will not suffer by reduction. Agent-General to Sir J. Vogel— Nov. 12th : (cable) Pender accepts your terms. Silverton's reply second question received. Shall I telegraph particulars ? Sir J. Yogel to Agent-General— Nev. 13*h ; Silverton by letter.
