The robbers commenced operations onthe safe, which they succeeded in opening, and abstracted upwards of LllOO, Later, Further information respecting the robbery at the Hotham branch of the Federal Bank last night shows that the amount abstracted was much greater than at flret reported, The total amount stolen from the safe was L 2856, consisting of LISI9 in Federal Baofe notes (whereof Ll.lOO alone w^roin fifties), L 461 ia gold, aod Ll2l in silver, A clerk named Robinson, aged 24, who slept on the premises in close proximity to tbe safe, asserts that he returned to the blink to sleep about midnight, and was not disturbed during the night. Hs further states that by mistake he loft the keys in tbe keyhole of the door. There are no signs of force being used to enter the premises or to open the safe, but nine drawers of |the latter had been broken opeD.
